Bernd Wiesberger is set to make a return to the DP World Tour in 2024 after successfully securing reinstatement through an approved membership application. The Austrian golfer, an eight-time DP World Tour winner, faced challenges during his venture on the LIV Circuit in 2022, prompting a strategic decision to rejoin the prestigious DP World Tour.
Wiesberger's hiatus from the DP World Tour was marked by difficulties on the LIV Circuit, where he struggled to find his footing since joining in 2022. The golfer's membership on the DP World Tour ceased after he fell short of meeting the Tour's minimum counting event regulation for the 2023 season. He participated in only two counting tournaments - the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
In response to this, a DP World Tour statement explained, "Wiesberger expressed his desire to play a full DP World Tour schedule in 2024 and has fulfilled all sanctions imposed upon him for breaches of the Tour's conflicting event regulation across 2022 and 2023." Consequently, DP World Tour Chief Executive Keith Pelley granted Wiesberger's request for reinstatement in accordance with the established procedure.
Wiesberger, aged 38, had a unique presence at the Ryder Cup in Rome this year, attending as a fan driven by his deep love for the event. His return to the DP World Tour aligns with the pivotal announcement of the merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf, forming a new collectively owned entity.
Reflecting on his decision, Wiesberger stated, "I am happy to announce my focus for next year will entirely be on the DP World Tour. I have never resigned my membership and therefore am grateful for the opportunity to play a full schedule once again." He expressed anticipation for participating in traditional national championships, where he has enjoyed past success, and eagerly looks forward to commencing the new season in Dubai in January.
As the golfing world witnesses this comeback, Wiesberger extends gratitude for the support and excitement surrounding his return to the DP World Tour.
